Dalaman Airport (IATA: DLM) is the closest airport to Dalyan, situated approximately 25 kilometres to the northwest. The journey from the airport to Dalyan town takes around 30 minutes by private transfer or taxi, making it one of the shortest airport-to-resort transfers on the entire Turkish coast — a small but significant benefit when you've been travelling since early morning.
Dalaman is a well-established tourist airport serving the Mugla Province coast. It handles a substantial number of direct charter and scheduled flights from UK and European airports throughout the summer season, and year-round scheduled services from Istanbul and other Turkish cities.
Flying from the UK
Multiple UK airports offer direct flights to Dalaman throughout the summer season (typically May to October), with some airlines operating year-round scheduled services. Flight time is approximately 3.5 hours from London, 4 hours from Manchester and Edinburgh, and around 3 hours from Birmingham.
Airlines operating direct or near-direct UK–Dalaman routes have included easyJet, Jet2, TUI, British Airways and Turkish Airlines (via Istanbul). The charter market is particularly active, with Jet2 and TUI offering Dalaman among their most popular Turkish destinations. Always check current schedules as routes change seasonally.
For UK visitors, Dalyan is significantly quicker and cheaper to reach than many comparable Turkish destinations — flights are regularly available for under £200 return in shoulder season, and the transfer is only half an hour. Factor in a private transfer booking in advance, particularly if arriving late at night.
Dalaman to Dalyan
The most comfortable and convenient option is a pre-booked private transfer direct from Dalaman Airport to your villa or hotel in Dalyan. Door-to-door with no shared stops — at 25km and 30 minutes, it is a very painless journey. Many villa rental companies, including Dalyan Villas, can arrange transfers on request.
Taxis are available at the airport and will take you directly to Dalyan. Agree the price before you depart — a metered taxi or fixed-rate private hire is preferable. The journey cost varies but is generally reasonable given the short distance.
A cheaper but slower alternative is the shuttle bus or shared transfer service, which collects passengers from the airport and drops them at multiple hotels and addresses in Dalyan and surrounding areas. Journey times are longer as the bus makes several stops, but the cost is significantly lower per person for solo travellers or couples.
Public transport — a local bus or dolmuş — is possible but involves a change at Ortaca and is not recommended late at night or with heavy luggage.
